The global chip shortage is going from bad to worse

Unfortunately, a new crisis has already emerged in 2021: the worldwide semiconductor shortage. The problem began in the auto industry, but the integrated circuit (IC) supply crunch quickly intensified, expanded and evolved into a global calamity.
It is the same for display and touch industry. In the last few months, we experienced shortage of LCD ICs, Touch controller ICs, and the soaring price.
Several factors are driving the crunch. The first is the covid pandemic, which plunged the global economy into recession last year, upending supply chains and changing consumer shopping patterns.
Other shocks, such as US government sanctions on Chinese technology companies and extreme weather, have also contributed to the shortage of supply.
The shortage is going from bad to worse, spreading from cars to consumer electronics and to touch and display industry. With the bulk of chip production concentrated in a handful of suppliers, analysts warn that the crunch is likely to last through 2021.
While Sphotoelec have well prepared for such shortage. We are ready to help our customers for their touch and display projects.
