What are the features needed for the outdoor application Touch-Display Solutions products? And what will happen for Touch-Display Solutions products when used outdoor?

Normally we think Anti-water, Sun readable( Anti-reflection, Anti-Glare), Extreme environment using(Low temperature, High Temperature, High temperature and high moisture), durability and stability are the key features.

And for corrosive gas environment, anti-corrosive treatment for Touch is also very important. One of my customer used to complain that their product is go defect after just 6 months in corrosive gas environment.

There are many details should be concerned when designing the product for outdoor applications. Normally we will implement industrial level IC, Industrial level Cover glass and Optical Bonding.

We would like to share our knowledge for Touch-Display Solutions for outdoor/extremely environment.

1. Using high temperature ink/Thermoplastic Ink by Ceramic printing.  

Requires high temperature “firing” to fuse them to the glass/ceramic surface at around 700 ℃ centigrade. Will need cover glass thicker than 2.0mm, if not, the cover glass will deform at high temperature(700 ℃). Very durable, excellent abrasion and chemical resistance. But also very high price.

2. Using anti-UV ink, while by normal printing.

Using UV-curable and solvent-based inks for printing on glass touchscreens will be cheaper compared with Ceramic Printing. But shortcoming is obvious, durability will not be as good as ceramic printing.

4. Sealing FPC position with glue. The FPC should be anti-corrosive treated.

5. Silver traces of touch should be protected by covering protective foil/glass.
