It is often confusing for an engineer to know what type of IP Rating they need to look for when they desire to have a “waterproof” enclosure. Much like with watches or other sensitive information, there is a big difference between waterproof, water-resistant, and other descriptive but not specific labels. Today, we would like to talk about IP level for “waterproof”.
As we all know, IP stands for Ingress Protection and is a system that describes how well a device can withstand exposure to dust and water.
IP ratings contain two digits. The first indicates to what extent the device can hold up to solids (like dust) and the second refers to how well it can withstand liquids (like water).
The number that represents solids ranges from 0 to 6, while the digit for liquids ranges from 0 to 9. The higher the number, the more capable that device is when faced with either solids or liquids.
We discussed about IP level knowledge in my last post, https://www.linkedin.com/posts/ken-g-9980651ba_sphotoelec-touchscreen-touchmonitor-activity-7082306308095291392-CoAP?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop
IP 65 is common requirement for industrial applications, what is IP 65 and how to design? See what Sphotoelec do.
For Industrial #PanelPC, #touchmonitor, normally customers require IP65, IP66, IP67, etc.,. IP65 means that the device is completely protected from dust and can withstand low-pressure jets of water; IP67 means that the device is completely protected from dust and can be submerged in water at a depth of 1 meter for 30 minutes. Refer to:https://www.linkedin.com/posts/ken-g-9980651ba_sphotoelec-touchscreen-touchmonitor-activity-7082306308095291392-CoAP?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop;
Then how to design a IP65 product? Is there any point need to care for?
Here are some key factors for IP65 products.
1. Sealing design: IP65 products need special sealing design to seal each IO connector and switch to prevent water and dust from entering the device.
2. Waterproof chassis: The casing of IP65 #PanelPC, #touchmonitor is usually made of waterproof materials, such as sheet metal, stainless steel etc., which can effectively prevent water penetration.
3. Waterproof interfaces: The interfaces of IP65 #PanelPC, #touchmonitor usually adopts waterproof connectors, waterproof plug, waterproof sealing ring. The traditional waterproof connector can be plastic type, or M12 connectors.
Please note that the waterproof industrial #PanelPC, #touchmonitor does not mean that it can be used underwater for a long time, but that it can work normally in a certain degree of moisture, water droplets, water environments for a certain time. During use, it is better to avoid soaking the device in water or exposing it to water for a long time.
